Thank you to those members who attended our AGM last Sunday and helped to shape the committee for the coming year. Congratulations to Leta Northcott on being awarded Life Membership the 30th Life Member to be appointed in the Club's 90 year history and a very deserving recipient! Leta was also elected as the club's first ever female President, replacing Leigh Aitken who stepped down from the role and the committee at the AGM. Please read below for a few words from both Leta and Leigh. Your new committee is as follows:
President – Leta Northcott
Secretary – Cathy Beames
Treasurer – Stephen Vink
Club Captain – Troy Aitken
Assistant Club Captain – Jed Blood
Junior Manager – Michelle Roberts
Assistant Junior Manager – Rory Delbridge
Communications Officer – Emma Vom Berg
Facilities Officer – Darren Giancaspro
Sponsorship Officer – Heath Frankel
Events Coordinator – Position vacant
Social Officer – Position vacant
Committee Intern – Position vacant (must be 18-25 years of age)
Social Committee members – Leonie Millard, Anne-Marie Timmers, Angelique Foran, Vanessa Pearce, Diane Vom Berg and Paula Hanna
As you can see, we still have a few spots to fill. Graeme Vom Berg was also nominated but because he is overseas we're not sure whether he will take the Events or Social position. If anyone would like to know more about either of these positions, please contact Leta on 0409 692 205.
The Committee Intern is only open to people 18-25 years of age. This is an entry level role on committee and provides opportunities for young club members to get a feel for what it's like to serve on committee. If anyone in this age bracket is interested or you know of anyone that might be interested, please contact Leta.
A Word from the Incoming President
It is with honour that I accept the nomination to be Colonel Light West Tennis Club's President.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank Leigh for the work that he has undertaken over the last 5 years as President and 15+ years before that as Club Captain. Leigh has led the club admirably and we are fortunate that the club is in a good position being both financially stable but also having been able to experience on court success as well.
We will have a few challenges coming our way over the next few years, including the changing face of Saturday tennis, court resurfacing and usage of the tennis courts, just to name a few. My key goal will be to guide the club, with the help of the Committee, and to work together to navigate through these challenges as best as we can for our members and to be able to continue our wonderful 90 year history.
I am looking forward to some warmer weather which will hopefully show itself soon and to seeing all of our members around the Club ready for the summer season!
Leta Northcott – President
A Word from the Outgoing President
It is with deep sadness and regret that I made the decision to resign as President at the end of my 5th year in this role. At the AGM I also stepped down from committee after I believe a total of 20 or 21 years serving on committee as Player Delegate, Social Secretary, Club Captain and President. As many of you know, I have been dealing with a recently diagnosed health issue and with treatment starting this week and the unknown challenges this may present, I felt that it would be in the best interests for me and the club to make this decision.
I am proud of the progress we have made in recent years consolidating and growing the club’s membership, improving the facilities for our members and securing grant funding in the vicinity of $29,000.
I wish our teams luck for the coming season and look forward to seeing you all on court at the start of the season.
Leigh Aitken – outgoing President
OPEN DAY 2017
Our Open Day and 90th Birthday celebration was relatively well supported by current members, their families and a few new faces. Fortunately the rain held off until the end of the day and it was great to see a few VIP's from State & Local Government come along and recognise our milestone.
Thanks to the committee, our Patron and a few volunteers for all your efforts making the day a great success and thanks to Hunter Bros. Printing for organising the leaflets and AGM material.
